- I'm having a hard time believing a 48 oz carafe takes 16 tbsp of coffee. Directions say 2 tbsp for every 6 oz water.
- How much coffee to use is a question that's been argued since - well, probably since people started drinking coffee. The absolute BEST way to do it is by weight of coffee:volume of water. Why? Because weight:volume will always be the same while the type of bean, the type of grind, even the static in the air will change the amount of actual coffee that's in a spoon. And don't get us started on the variability in spoons and scoops. That said, not everyone wants to weigh their beans and measure out their water every morning so our recommendation is as follows: For a standard countertop drip coffee maker, start with TWO LEVEL (not heaped) TABLESPOONS of drip ground coffee per 6 fluid ounces of water. Here's the important part - adjust to your taste! If you feel like that's too strong for you (or not strong enough), adjust to where the taste is right for you. Our new FRC coffee scoops, by the way, are measured out to two tablespoons so you'd want to use eight level scoops for a 48 oz carafe.
